Gintoki gets amnesia from a traffic accident, and any attempt to help him fails. The following scenes with his last words and the children tearfully asking Gintoki to help them in exchange for their treasures (read children's trinkets) is touching in a heartwrending way. Just as he sets out to escape Edo and start over, the Tendoshu (who are behind the ring) have him killed. The top fighter turns out to be a kindhearted father to orphaned children who wants to try and start a new life.

"Takasugi, Takasugi, stop the boat, please! I was on the boat with you, wasn't I?" "Takasugi, I was supposed to have a drink with you!" Gintoki nearly yelled. Takasugi was alone on it, playing the shamisen, occasionally sipping sake. Even the river was bursting with tints of pink. When he opened his eyes, everything had turned the shade of pale rose-pink. Gintoki ran after them but was stopped by a fierce swirl of sakura blossoms. Then, Shoyo took hold of Takasugi's little palm and teacher and student walked away into the dusk. Shoyo also made a gesture similar to Takasugi. "What d'you mean, goodbye? Shoyo, hit him on the head!" Takasugi waved his hand like the child he was as though trying to say 'bye-bye'. Child Takasugi beamed brightly and Shoyo appeared as kind as ever. "Why the hell are you getting all the attention from Shoyo?"īoth Takasugi and Shoyo looked behind them. The smiling teacher knelt down before the child and gently patted him. The man and the child both laughed, the creature flew away.

It appeared to be summer and twilight was about to sweep down as a dragonfly settled on the boy's head. A tiny boy in a maroon haori and very deep violet hair was clutching onto the mauve kimono of a man with light-coloured long locks (the child only reached upto the older man's knee) as the two walked along the stony lane bedecked by rice fields on both ends.
